Post Match Reaction: Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll said he was delighted to help the team to a 4-1 win over Chelsea and dedicated the victory to the fans for their fantastic support in 2011-12.

Although the No.9 didn’t get on the scoresheet, the Carlsberg Man of the Match was a constant menace to John Terry and the Chelsea defence found him a tough target to handle.

“I thought we did really well and it was a great feeling to beat Chelsea in front of our supporters for the final time at Anfield this season,” said Carroll.

Post Match Reaction: Kenny Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish reflected on Liverpool’s impressive 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield and admitted the Reds were happy to send the fans home with smiles on their faces.

“It was an excellent performance,” said the boss. “It’s been seen a few times before here, but the result hasn’t always been as positive as that. So the great thing for us is that the performance was matched by a result that they thoroughly deserved.

“Also, the fact that the supporters can get away from the last game of the season with a little bit of a smile on their faces is great. And I think that the way they stayed behind and showed their appreciation speaks volumes for them.

Liverpool Thrash Chelsea 4-1

It was the kind of convincing win and performance by Liverpool that had to have Kenny Dalglish and the Liverpool fand wondering why they had not played like that on Saturday in the FA Cup Final when Chelsea beat them 2-1.

Liverpool totally dominated Chelsea tonight at Anfield and could easily have scored six or seven. Chelsea had no answer to Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll. Carroll picked up where he left off at Wembley, physically dominating the two Chelsea center halves Carroll has been a different player since scoring the winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton. He is playing with a confidence and physical presence that defenders cannot cope with.

Christian Purslow Says Liverpool Were One Day From Going Into Administration

Former Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow says that the club was one day away from administration before being sold to current owners Fenway Sports Group.

Purslow said on Radio 5 Live’s Sportsweek programme:

“People have short memories, it’s only 15-16 months ago we were a day away from being in administration. We are now stable financially.

“It’s year one of what they (Fenway) said when they bought the club would be a long journey.”

Purslow was appointed by former joint owners Tom Hicks and George Gillette in June 2009 with a brief of finding new owners, and left his post shortly after Fenway completed their takeover in Oct 2010.

Liverpool Come Up Short In FA Cup Final

Chelsea held over heavy Liverpool pressure to win the FA Cup for the seventh time, and their fourth in six years, as they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley today thanks to Ramires’s first-half goal and a landmark strike by Didier Drogba.

Chelsea got off to a great start when Ramires scored after 11 minutes.Juan Mata again showed why Chelsea signed him this summer when he pounced on a mistake by Jay Spearing in the middle of the park and then turned and found to find Ramires with a perfectly weighted pass and the midfielder raced clear of José Enrique to fire in a shot which went in off Pepe Reina at his near post. Jose Enrique will be disappointed with the ease that Ramires got behind him, while Pepe Reina will have nightmares for a long time about letting Ramires beat him to his near post.

Kenny Dalglish Wembley preview

Kenny Dalglish stressed the importance of the fans to everyone at Liverpool Football Club and promised them that the team are fully committed to making tomorrow’s cup final a day to remember.

The manager was talking to Liverpoolfc.tv ahead of the Reds’ showpiece clash against Chelsea at Wembley. Here’s what the manager had to say:

Kenny, we’re just 24 hours away from the FA Cup final, is there a bit of an extra buzz about training today, amongst the lads?

Liverpool’s Wage Bill Going The Wrong Way

So Liverpool have finally released their financials for last year and despite Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre’s spin, these numbers do not make good reading.

Liverpool’s total income last season fell by £1m to £184m, with TV and media £14m down due to Liverpool not playing in the Champions League. Worrying for Liverpool fans is that the club’s wage bill increased by £13m in 2010-11. So basically Liverpool are playing Champions League type wages, without actually playing in the Champions League.

Liverpool v Chelsea FA Cup Final Preview

Saturday is one of the biggest days in the English football calendar as Liverpool and Chelsea meet at Wembley in the FA Cup Final. I had the privilege of walking up from the field at Wembley and getting my hands on the FA Cup and I can just imagine what it will be like for Stevie Gerrard on Saturday.

Liverpool have of course already won a trophy this season the Carling Cup, and they are trying to become only the fourth side to complete the domestic FA Cup and League Cup double. The others wereArsenal in 1993, Liverpool in 2001 and Chelsea in 2007.

Tom Warner Bats Eyes Towards Clint Dempsey

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says that Fulham’s USA star Clint Dempsey would be a great addition to Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool squad.

Dempsey is having a career year at Fulham, scoring 16 goals in the league for Fulham and obviously catching the eye of Liverpool’s US ownership.

Despite spending a lot of money last summer, it is clear that this Liverpool squad is not good enough to compete with the best teams in England on a week in and week out basis, and more investment in players will be needed this summer,

Liverpool Financial Results Don’t Make Sense

Liverpool have preannounced that they lost £50m last season with £35m of that being attributed to Hicks and Gillett’s Stanley Park stadium plans and a further £4.8m to pay off former manager Roy Hodgson, managing director Christian Purslow and other staff.

So all the focus is on Hicks and Gillett and how they are to blame for this loss. But what happened to the big trading profit that Liverpool got for selling Torres in January? Where did that money go?
