Liverpool Tear Brighton Apart

It was the sort of home display that Liverpool fans have been waiting to see all season as the reds put six past Brighton to move into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

This was a terrific Liverpool performance and it started up-front by the big man Andy Carroll. Scored one, laid on one and his presence resulted in two other Liverpool goals. It was by far Carroll’s best performance in a Liverpool shirt. And part of the reason was that Liverpool varied the balls into him. Instead of the big ball down the middle, Downing was knocking balls to the near and far post from the left, and Gerrard knocked in some good crosses also from the right. The varied attack kept the Brighton defense off-balance as they did not know where Carroll was going next.

No Player Is Bigger Than Liverpool FC

Was sickened to my stomach by the antics of Luis Suarez yesterday at Old Trafford. The not shaking Evra’s hand and the kicking of the ball at half-time were petulant actions.

Liverpool FC is the most successful team in England. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world but Suarez (and to some degree Dalglish’s) actions are tarnishing the club that Shankly built.

I cannot help but compare the “me attitude” of Suarez with that of Liverpool legend Tommy Smith who announced this past week that he was selling all the medals from his glittering Liverpool career including his European Cup winners medal.

Dalglish Reopens Suarez Debate

Sometimes Kenny Dalglish makes me shake my head in disbelief and this is one of those times. Luis Suarez played his first game since returning from his 8-match ban and instead of letting it go, Dalglish reopened the Suarez debate by saying:

“We don’t think he should ever have been away but we are delighted to get him back,” said the Liverpool boss. “He has not played since December, so it was a wee bit unfair to throw him straight in. He has had half an hour and that will have done him the world of good. It is better than anything we could have done at Melwood.”

Suarez returns But Liverpool Can Only Draw Again At Anfield

Luis Suarez made his return from his eight-match suspension but their was no fairy tale ending as Liverpool and Spurs played to a goalless draw at Anfield.

Suarez started the game on the bench and he watched his teammates come flying out of the blocks with Gerrard slipping a delightful through ball to Andy Carroll only for Michael Dawson to make a goal-saving fifth-minute challenge. Parker’s reckless lunge on Glen Johnson a minute later presented Gerrard with a scoring opportunity from a free-kick, but it came to nothing and set the tone for a frustrating opening 45 minutes.

Bellamy Impresses King Kenny

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish hailed a superb performance from Craig Bellamy as his side overwhelmed relegation-threatened Wolves 3-0 at Molineux.

Bellamy scored the second goal and tormented Wolves throughout with his threatening runs and tireless work as the Reds climbed to fifth place in the Barclays Premier League.

It completed a memorable seven days for Liverpool after their Carling Cup and FA Cup wins over the two Manchester clubs.

Andy Carroll’s first league goal for three months set Liverpool on the way to victory before Dirk Kuyt wrapped up the scoring.

There’s Only One Andy Carroll!!

Twelve months after joining Liverpool in a shock transfer deadline deal, Andy Carroll scored the match winner as Liverpool beat Wolves 3-0 tonight. Liverpool’s win, combined with Chelsea’s draw at Swansea means that Liverpool are now just four points away from that fourth Champions League spot. With United playing Chelsea this weekend, Liverpool could close the gap to only a point by the end of the weekend.

Carroll’s goal was only his ninth for Liverpool but it came at an important time, just minutes into the second half. Bellamy’s quick throw was collected by Charlie Adam, who whipped a cross to the far post for Carroll to beat Eggert Jonsson to touch in at the far post.

Gerrard Praises Liverpool Fans

Steven Gerrard praised the part played by the Liverpool fans after the Reds registered a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash at Anfield.

“I thought the Liverpool fans were superb today,” Gerrard told ITV1. “They never let us down and they played a part today. They pushed us through. They realised we were very tired after midweek, but when they’re pushing they suck goals in, and I think they sucked Dirk’s goal in today.”

Gerrard conceded, however, that United had dominated much of the game before Kuyt struck the winner in the 88th minute.

Liverpool 2 Man United 1 – Quick Thoughts

What an amazing four days for Liverpool FC. On Wednesday we have the emotional draw with Man City that sent Liverpool back to Wembley for the first time in 16-years, And then today, Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-1 to advance to the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Some quick thoughts on the match today:

Gerrard Hails Liverpool Hero Bellamy

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard led the celebrations as his side ended a near six-year wait to qualify for a major domestic final.

The Reds booked their place in the Carling Cup showpiece with Cardiff by seeing off Manchester City on aggregate tonight – a 2-2 draw coming on the back of their 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago.

Liverpool last reached a domestic final in 2006 when they beat West Ham to the FA Cup in Cardiff, and the February 26 meeting will be their first Wembley appearance since 1996.

Were Going To Wembley!!

An absolutely brilliant performance by Liverpool as they draw 2-2 with Manchester City tonight, winning 3-2 on aggregate and advancing to Wembley where they will play Cardiff in the Carling Cup final.

Tonight’s performance was everything that Saturday’s performance against Bolton wasn’t. Liverpool played with passion and tempo, created chances and more importantly took them. If it was not for Joe Hart, Liverpool scored have scored four or five goals tonight. And over the two legs Liverpool were the better side and deserved to be going back to Wembley.
