Liverpool boss Dalglish: Henry will back me in transfer market

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish knows he has the backing of owner John W Henry in the transfer market. Liverpool are close to landing Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique, while signing a centre-half is also on the radar.

Dalglish said:

“I don’t know of any football club that has ever had success and not spent money. It is necessary, but it’s even more important to spend it wisely, and we’ve acted responsibly. If anyone has a better owner than John Henry, then they’ve done very well for themselves because he’s fantastically supportive.”


Liverpool boss Dalglish continues spending spree with Cahill bid

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to splash out for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill. The Daily Mail says having lost out to Manchester United for Phil Jones in June, Dalglish is searching for a central defender in the mould of Bolton’s England man Cahill.

“Spending money does not guarantee you success,” said Dalglish. ”(But) I don’t know of any football club that has ever had success that has not spent money. So it is necessary.”


Poulsen will not leave Liverpool says agent

The agent of Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen says his client will not be leaving the club this summer.

The 31-year old Denmark international failed to make an impact at Anfield this season after joining from Juventus at the beginning of the campaign and it has emerged that he could be on his way out in this transfer window.

But his representative, Jorn Bonnesen, has made it clear that Liverpool have not yet put him up for sale indicating a stay on Merseyside is highly likely.

Suarez: Liverpool success came quicker than expected

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is eager to build on his first six months at Anfield.

Suarez has scored four goals for Liverpool but caught the eye as much for his assists, most notably in a memorable 3-1 defeat of Manchester United in March.

Suarez told LFC Weekly: “I think I have settled in well, which is very, very important.

“Settling into a new team was always the most important thing about coming here.

“I think I have done that and it’s happened a lot quicker than I thought it would.

The News of the World says Liverpool will offer Newcastle £8million for left-back Enrique this week.

The Spaniard has a year left on his current Toon deal and been tabled new terms by the Geordies.

Newcastle want an answer from Enrique this week over whether he will stick or twist.

Abramovich wants to bring Liverpool coach Clarke back to Chelsea

Liverpool face a battle to keep hold of coach Steve Clarke.

The People says Chelsea are looking at adding to their coaching staff, with a vacancy open since Ray Wilkins was axed halfway through the last campaign.

Abramovich would like to see former player and ­assistant-manager Clarke ­return.

However, he has signed a new deal to work with Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and will be hard to budge.

Liverpool have moved for Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho.

The People says Liverpool are going for Cissokho after being frustrated in their bid to land Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique.

Liverpool have now moved Cissokho to the top of their wanted list, with Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre behind him.

Cissokho, 23, has suitors across Europe, with Bayern Munich – who are also keen on Enrique – and Juventus keeping tabs, too.

Liverpool slap in bid for Standard Liege star Witsel

Liverpool are battling AC Milan for Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.

The People says Liverpool have offered £10m for the 22-year-old, whose club rate him at £13m.

Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida watched him in action on Friday for Belgium in their Euro 2012 qualifying draw against Turkey.

And it was not a good night for Witsel, as he blazed a match-winning 74th-minute penalty over the bar.

Sunderland stunned as Liverpool offer £18.5M for Henderson

Liverpool have tabled a new offer for Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Mirror says Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish made a new £18.5 million bid for Sunderland‘s England under-21 midfielder Jordan Henderson on Sunday.

Dalglish increased his opening offer from last week by almost £5 million as he goes for a quick deal, hoping to tie up Henderson as the Kop’s first summer signing before the European finals start this weekend.

Henderson is waiting on the call to head for Merseyside for talks and a medical – although Sunderland believe they may yet get more out of the Anfield club.

Liverpool go for West Brom superkid Jerome Sinclair

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is chasing West Bromwich Albion’s talented teenager Jerome Sinclair.

The Reds chief has been seeking out up-and-coming players and the 14-year-old fits the bill, says the People.

In fact, the Kop’s spies rate Sinclair as highly as their own starlet, Raheem Sterling, 16.

Liverpool hope to agree a compensation deal with the Baggies for the midfielder, who would leap at the chance of moving to Anfield.
