THERE was plenty to talk about following Sunderland’s visit to Anfield last September.
PREMIER LEAGUE: Aston Villa finish season with narrow win over Liverpool
Aston Villa managed to finish in the top half of the Premier League table courtesy of a 1-0 home win over Liverpool today.
Despite a bright beginning, Liverpool found themselves behind when Stewart Downing found space in the area when Marc Albrighton’s deep cross found him on a tight angle and he was able to fire into the roof of the net for eighth goal of the season.
Shelvey expecting to see more action for Liverpool next term
Former Charlton Athletic winger Jonjo Shelvey admits playing for Liverpool at Anfield is a “dream come true”.
Shelvey has enjoyed an impressive debut season at Anfield since arriving from Charlton last summer – and he’s relishing a successful future at the club.
The 19-year-old told liverpoolfc.tv: “He (Kenny Dalglish) has said that I am in his plans. I have got a lot to look forward to.
“I am still a young boy, I’m still learning, which is why it is good to play with players like Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt, and learn day in, day out from them.”
Kuyt happier playing with Liverpool pal Suarez than Torres
Dirk Kuyt admits he enjoys playing with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez more than former teammate Fernando Torres.
The Dutchman credits his scoring run to the arrival of Suarez, who has replaced Chelsea striker Torres at Anfield.
He explained to Barend & Barend: “Torres is a finisher, who lives for his goals.
“If I was paired with Torres, I always played more to produce chances for him. With Luis there is currently more give and take. Luis is always in action and full of ideas.
Liverpool’s Shelvey loving life under Dalglish
Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has heaped praise on manager Kenny Dalglish for the job he has done since taking the role in early January.
The Reds have moved up to sixth on the Premier League table with some inspired performances in the second half of the season and Shelvey says it has been the influence of the famous Scot which has put them back in place for Europa League qualification.
“In January, when the boss took over, you would not have expected us to be fifth come the end of the season,” the youngster said.
Kuyt refuses to accept Liverpool Euro hopes are over
Dirk Kuyt insists Liverpool can still finish in fifth place after defeat to Tottenham yesterday.
Spurs face Birmingham at home next weekend, while Liverpool travel to Aston Villa with Kuyt hoping Harry Redknapp‘s men will slip up.
“Obviously the result was very disappointing,” said Kuyt. “We all hoped for a good result and a win, but it didn’t happen.
“There’s still one game to go and hopefully they (Spurs) will draw next week and we win and get into Europe next season.
PREMIER LEAGUE: Tottenham back to fifth with away win at Liverpool
Tottenham have moved back to fifth on the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
Spurs deserved maximum points from the match as they took it right up to and away from a Reds outfit who did not provide that attacking presence which had been so prominent in recent matches.
Keegan insists Liverpool far from being top four class
Liverpool icon Kevin Keegan has warned his old club against getting carried with this season’s turnaround.
Keegan feels the current squad still isn’t top four material.
“They have a long way to go to make it to the top four,” he told the Daily Mail. “Steven Gerrard will come back. You assume that Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll — raw but the best header of a ball I’ve ever seen and I don’t say that lightly — will be back. And you have to fit Dirk Kuyt in, so he’ll have to play on the wing, and he’s not a winger.
Liverpool to Confirm Kenny Dalglish as Permanent Manager In Ten Days
Anfield boss to put pen to paper before last game of the season.
Liverpool are expected to confirm within 10 days that Kenny Dalglish will be their permanent manager, with his 11 wins in 21 games, which have driven the club up the table, convincing the club’s American owners to put their trust in him ahead of their venture into the transfer market this summer.
