Doni: Liverpool Did Not Offer Me Enough Money

Stadio Olimpico shot-stopper reveals why he rejected Anfield move.

Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni rejected the chance of moving to Liverpool because he would have had to take a pay cut.

The two clubs agreed a transfer fee for the 31-year-old but the deal collapsed when discussing personal terms.

The Brazil international joined the Serie A club in 2005 from Juventude but has lost his place in the starting XI to Julio Sergio after undergoing knee surgery two years ago.

Doni made 16 appearances last season and it is likely he would have been used as back up for Liverpool’s number one, Pepe Reina.
