Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says the club’s transfer activity means they have closed the gap on Manchester United and can now compete for the Premier League title.
The 31-year-old has watched as the Reds have bought Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson in deals totalling nearly £100million.
Gerrard believes these signings will help Liverpool win their first trophy since 2006 and he is desperate to win the club’s first league title since 1990.

Liverpool coach Steve Clarke believes captain Steven Gerrard is the most complete midfielder in the last 20 years and understands his importance to the club.
Injuries have restricted Gerrard’s involvement in the Reds’ recent revival under manager Kenny Dalglish.
His groin injury kept him out of the last two months of the season but he does hope to be fully recovered in time for pre-season.

Chelsea’s assistant first team coach Michael Emenalo believes under-fire striker Fernando Torres is missing the deliver from his old Liverpool teammates.
The Spaniard scored just once in 18 appearances in all competitions since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Anfield in January and Emenalo feels it is because he has fully yet to settle in his new surroundings.
“I can say he’s still adapting to the pattern of Chelsea at the moment,” Emenalo told Goal.com.
“This is due to the fact he’s still missing the juicy passes being served to him by the likes of [Xabi] Alonso and [Steven] Gerrard, but with time he will adapt.”
