Liverpool expect midfielder Philippe Coutinho to be sidelined until the end of October with the shoulder injury he suffered in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City.
The Brazilian was forced from the field during the second half of Monday’s clash at the Liberty Stadium following a challenge with Ashley Williams.
The Reds have confirmed he will now undergo ‘surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder’.
Coutinho has been key to Liverpool’s fine start to the season, which sees Brendan Rodgers’ side sitting at the top of the Premier League after four games.
“Liverpool have confirmed Philippe Coutinho will undergo a procedure on the shoulder injury he sustained in Monday evening’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City,” read a club statement.
“After being assessed by the Reds medical staff, it’s been decided that Coutinho will now have surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder.
“Liverpool hope to have the 21-year-old back in contention again towards the end of October.”
