Dirk Kuyt is determined to fulfil his ambition of winning a trophy with Liverpool after reaching the Carling Cup final.
It will be Liverpool’e first final since the 2007 UEFA Champions League against Milan. Kuyt scored Liverpool’s goal in that game, but he is desperate to pick up a winners medal with Liverpool:
“I have been here a while now and have played in a Champions League final and semi-final and in the Europa League semi-final and been second in the league,” Kuyt told Sky Sports. “Sometimes it is like that in football. You just have to make sure you give everything to reach what you want to reach – I know it is not enough to be second. We have been close and sometimes a bit unlucky, but that is behind us, that is what we can’t change. What we can change is the future and hopefully there are many trophies to come and the Carling Cup will be a first. That is what Liverpool football club is about. It was when I first arrived here almost six years ago. I came here to win trophies and that is the spirit of the players, the manager and the club so it is good to be back in contention and hopefully we can go on from here. We are all desperate to win a trophy – it has been a while for us – and that’s the target. It’s great to be in a final and now hopefully we can finish it off.”
