Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish knows he has the backing of owner John W Henry in the transfer market. Liverpool are close to landing Newcastle United left-back Jose Enrique, while signing a centre-half is also on the radar.
Dalglish said:
“I don’t know of any football club that has ever had success and not spent money. It is necessary, but it’s even more important to spend it wisely, and we’ve acted responsibly. If anyone has a better owner than John Henry, then they’ve done very well for themselves because he’s fantastically supportive.”

Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux has stressed that his transfer to Liverpool fell through because he could not agree personal terms with the Premier League side.
