Some thoughts on the game:
We saw all aspects of Andy Carroll’s game last night. The unlucky side when his goal bound shot was blocked in the first half and the rebound fell to Maxi to make it 2-0. The poor finishing side when he missed a great opportunity to score just minutes into the second half. His versatility in the second half when he almost played as a third center-half to try and combat Blackburn’s long balls into the box. And then his courage to score with a diving header in added time. Carroll for all his faults is still young and need to play every week
Who wants to be Liverpool’s goalkeeper at Wembley this weekend? For the second consecutive game, Liverpool had a goalkeeeper sent off. This time it was Doni’s turn to get red carded, sent off on his Liverpool debut after bringing down Blackburn’s Hoilett in the first half. Not only will Doni miss the FA Cup tie, but I wonder if his one opportunity to establish himself at Anfield is gone?
Brad Jones will be Liverpool’s goalkeeper at Anfield on Saturday, although he almost got himself sent off after giving away a penalty with a blundering challenge. Not sure who would have been in goal against Everton if that had happened. Jones has to undergo 18 months of personal hell with the loss of his son Luca. His last game for Liverpool was the league cup defeat by Northampton, his next will be at Wembley.
There was some chatter on Twitter after the Aston Villa game about Jonjo Shelvey and his reluctance to cross the half-way line. That was not the case last night. I thought he did a terrific job driving forward from midfield all game, and I though it was one of his better performances in a Liverpool shirt.
What did you think of Liverpool’s performance last night?
