I though that Suarez to Real Madrid this summer made a lot more sense than selling him to Arsenal. After selling Higuain, Madrid had an obvious need for a striker and Liverpool would not be selling to a Premier League rival. But the Gareth Bale deal dragged on so long, that Madrid did not have time to get another big deal done, and so an official bid was never made for the Liverpool striker.
Spanish TV station Punto Pelota claims the Uruguayan international is desperate to leave Anfield, while his representatives are already talking to the La Liga giants.
Madrid will have to splash some serious cash for Suarez however, with £42m being the price Liverpool will agree to.
Arsenal failed with a whopping £40m and £1 bid during the summer, before the 26-year-old agreed to stay at the club.
But Madrid haven’t been put off and will come back with a huge bid in January.
According to Paul Collins of the Daily Mail:
Liverpool are braced for Real Madrid to return with a £45million bid for star striker Luis Suarez in January.
The Uruguay forward was desperate for a move to the La Liga giants in the summer but it did not materialise, thanks to Madrid’s capture of Gareth Bale.
After forking out £86m for the Welshman they did not want to pay Liverpool’s asking price of £55m for Suarez.
I think two things will come into play if Suarez is to leave in January. One is where are Liverpool in the league. If they are still in the top four, then there is no way that Rodgers will let Suarez leave. The second is who Liverpool can sign to replace him. January is a tricky month in which to make deals and a lot will depend on whether Liverpool can get their top targets to replace him. If not the deal will wait until the summer.
